Masha Coffee: A Taste of Tradition
In the hills of Gihororo, Kayanza, lies the Masha washing station, named after the Kirundi word “amasho”, meaning “herds of cattle”. For generations, this area has been a crossroads for herders, who greet each other with the unique phrase “gira amasho” – “owner of cows”.
Since 1989, Masha has been producing something equally special: delicious coffee. Local small-scale farmers grow coffee alongside food crops to support their families. The result is a coffee with notes of apricot, honey, and cinnamon tea, crafted with care and rooted in tradition.
Each sip tells the story of this remarkable place.
